What is CBD?
This article is to help clear up the question of what CBD (cannabiol) really is. As we all know CBD is an extract from the marijuana plant along with THC (tetrahydrocannabiol). CBD and THC are the two main chemicals that are of the most useful to most everyone. There are also many other uses for the cannabis plant such as making cloth, rope, and a number of other useful items, which I’ll cover later in another article.
Both CBD and THC once they are extracted from the marijuana plant are of an oilly substance. And someone figured out that CBD had madisanal properties and threw out time studies shows that CBD could also be used in aiding certain types of mental illness, which I will cover later in this artical.
I’m mainly going to concentrate on the CBD because, as we all know, THC is the chemical that give you the high you feel when a person smokes a joint and CBD does not give you that high. In fact CBD doesn’t get you high at all.
You see, the reason that CBD is such a mystery is because with marijuana Just starting to become legal and that it has been illegal for such a long time, I believe that it became illegal world wide in 1937, and if my math is correct that comes to about 82 years. So taking that into consideration, there isn’t that much information on CBD because during that time there wasn’t a lot of studies done about it.
However, I’m going to try and take out some of the mystery about CBD and all the great things all of you out there use this seemingly miracle extract for. The many things that CBD is used for is truly miraculous.
CBD, once it has been extracted from the plant in raw form is an oil based material that later infused into other CBD products, such as, of course, an oil, a cream that can be used externally for a muscle rub, there are also gummy CBD products as well capsules for internal use.
There are claims threw studies and personal experience from one person to the next that CBD is used for pain relief of all kinds.
Starting with arthritis, that is some pretty amazing stuff if CBD can take away arthritis pain. But the truth of it is patients who have arthritis are looking for an alternative to conventional treatment because with CBD they don’t get the side effects that they would have with their arthritis medication.
Head aches, the thing about head aches is it has to be taken orally, and since the FDA hasn’t recognized CBD as a pharmaceutical drug yet it’s hard to tell how much to take for things such as a head ache or for any other reason you would have to take it orally. So, as of now until more studies are done, especially on the use of human’s, you will have to experiment with what you think is safe for you. I’ve smoked a lot of weed at one given time in my life and I think I came out of it OK. Nonetheless, use caution when taking CBD or other types of medication.
The FDA however is starting to take a good hard look at all the benefits that CBD contributes to the health benefits world wide.
Sore muscles, CBD also comes in a cream form which also makes it great for a muscle rub, or if your a massage therapist I would think it would be great for giving massages to help relax the muscle groups as your therapist works his/her magic.
Anxiety & Stress
Just recently studies have shown that CBD can aid in the treatment of anxiety and stress. But according to my research, it’s difficult to determine the dosage required to treat anxiety and or stress due to the fact that CBD is a relatively new product and not a whole lot of tests have been conducted on human subjects. So determining the dosage required for humans is still in the experimental stages. The suggestion, according to my research, is to try 300mg, 600mg, or 900mg to determine which may be right for the patient. Because, taking to little of a dose may not show results and taking to much may cause an increase of anxiety, but if a person with anxiety can find a happy medium until CBD can be regulated according to the proper dosage. Most likely the mid range of 600mg would be a reasonable dose. But that also would depend on height and weight.
However, there have been numerous tests done on mice which showed promising results. A test had been done on some mice which half of the mice had been given CBD and the other half were given a placebo, why the scientist would give a mouse a placebo is beyond me but they did. Then a snake was put in with the mice and the mice that had been given the CBD were less anxious than the mice that had been given the placebo.
CBD has also been tested on patients with epilepsy and has shown promising results in patients with epilepsy.
Can CBD be sent by mail?
That seems to be the big question going around these days. Technically, the answer is no. Under Federal Law, cannabis is still an illegal substance under the Controller Substance Act. So what that means is, transporting any form of cannabis across state lines is considered a FELONY Trafficking offence and can result in prison time up to 5 years for the first offence.
Warning: there have been ads offering to ship CBD, if you live in a state where cannabis is still illegal then you need to take a closer look at the product you are buying. Marijuana plants which CBD is extracted from is illegal to transport across state lines. However, CBD can also be extracted from the hemp plant as well and is all rich with CBD. The process for extracting CBD is a somewhat different process. There are certain chemicals that are used for this process. So beware that if your getting CBD extracted from hemp that most likely there will be unhealthy chemicals in it.
Keep in mind that there are no Federal guidelines or standards concerning quality control.
I hope that this article cleared up any questions you may have had concerning CBD. If you have any comments or questions please leave them below and I will do everything I can to make sure you have the correct answer.
